.. about Boy Meets Girl
So yesterday was the day when we finally had the complete look of (500)days of Summer.
(thanks to Haz, this was the movie that we were looking forward for about two months now!)
Awesome awesome movie.
It is very different, in terms of direction and shots, from the conventional Hollywood Rom-Com genre. But the same charm and wit remains. I guess it's universal, and it really make the piece work. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel's immersion into their role were genuine and conceivable. The tangibility of their chemistry just pushed the film into a whole new realm.
Sure, it takes some getting used to. With the director's choice of emphasizing the reality of love and little things like the palpable silence and subdued tones of most part of the movie, even when they were really happy, this piece won't really come across as what one would call groundbreaking or even watchable.. (friend's friend advised him not to watch it! Oh, the blasphemy!)
But, I really thought that it was so good because of the overall honesty and the brutality of real life.
If I have one critique, it would be that it wasn't morbid and brutal enough.. Cause in a way, the film ended in a happy-sort-of-way.
Yes, I'm sadistic like that. But I guess that's cinematography.. You can't please everyone.. and the message that is intended to be put out there shouldn't be one of despair and misery.
Anyway.. I strongly urge everyone to watch it! It's a classic chill-out flick and serves up good laughs too.
Oh yes.. the music is awesome too. No question about that.
